Bayside Safety Bulletin – July 18th

Dock Safety: Swimmers & Boats in High Traffic Periods The dock – or the wharf as it’s known more specifically – gets busy on hot days (especially on weekends) and swimmers can often crowd the path that boats take to the boat float. Lifeguards have been advised to keep a close eye on that pattern – and to especially warn kids diving off the dock to keep clear of the boat path.

Swimming, jumping, and diving from the wharf is allowed only from the swim float and from the front of the wharf north of – and including – the wharf ladder.

Also: Bikes, scooters, skateboards etc. are prohibited on the wharf!

Vandalism Outbreak: Offensive Graffiti, Library Door Lock — A Kid’s Bike. Heck, Even a Roll of Paper Towels! Bayside – where neighbors look after each other – is experiencing a rash of vandalism this summer and we’re looking to enlist your watchful eyes.

Here’s a snapshot:

  • Someone – apparently unhappy with a lifeguard – scratched something offensive on the cover of the lifeguard storage cabinet located on the dock.
  • The lock on the library children’s building was tampered with and destroyed.
  • A kid’s bike was taken and then returned damaged beyond repair.
  • A brand-new roll of paper towels in the NVC restroom in Community Hall was taken on the day of an evening event. You read that right: Someone stole a roll of paper towels! Cost to the village to replace: $80.00.

If you see something – say something – by calling the County Sherriff @ 911.

Dog Poo – Is it You? A number of Baysiders have commented on the amount of dog waste that is being left in parks and roadsides. Please remind your dog walkers – adults, children, relatives, friends, etc. – to pick up after the pooch. And if you see someone walking off without taking the waste with them, please speak up. Offenders are subject to fines!

Dog waste should be disposed of at the owner’s cottage. Dog waste does not belong in the Yacht Club trash and recycling receptacles.
